To apply a drop shadow, make sure you have the layer selected that you want to apply the shadow to.Click the little twirly to open the Artwork and Effects pallet on the right side of your workspace.

Then in the first drop down menu pick LAYER STYLES.

Then in the next drop down menu pick DROP SHADOWS. When you find a shadow you like double click on it to apply, or click once and then click apply.

To adjust your shadow just click on the little star icon the appears on your layer in the layers pallet.In this dialogue box you can adjust the setting for your shadow. This includes everything from the angle of the shadow to the softness or harshness of the shadows edges.
